Vakgericht 1 – Rivalen 1

On February 8, it was time for the match against the league leaders, Rivalen. This was the first game where the entire team was complete. And it wasn’t just any Saturday—it was the Saturday of our lustrum weekend! Because of this, a lot of supporters (with horns) quickly started to fill the stands. There had been some speculation about walking onto the field together, but since not everyone on the team was enthusiastic about that idea, we decided to skip it.

As soon as the starting whistle blew, Rivalen wasted no time scoring goals. One shot after another from the sidelines found the target. Things weren’t going as smoothly for Vakgericht, and the substitutes on the bench were eager to get onto the field. But after a while, we finally scored our first goal—and with it, the first goal tune! Each player had submitted a song beforehand that would be played whenever they scored. After this first goal, we heard Jasper’s goal tune, though I have to admit I didn’t recognize the song right away. Later in the first half, we also heard Rammstein for Daniel’s goal and Jasper’s goal tune once more. We went into halftime with a score of 3-11.

During halftime, we made quite a few substitutions, and with five new players, we started the second half. The fresh energy made a big difference, and before long, we heard Snollebollekes—Henry’s goal tune. Later, Fenna was also “on fire,” complete with a fitting goal tune. I was personally very curious about Oscar’s goal tune, as I had heard it was AI-generated, and I got lucky because it played in the second half as well. Meanwhile, we were closing the gap with Rivalen, and with just a three-point difference, things started to get exciting. Rivalen’s goals weren’t coming as easily in the second half.

The match ended in a solid 12-15, and we were definitely happy with that result. Together with the supporters, we sang the lustrum song and the club song before continuing our lustrum celebrations.
