Blauw Zwart 4 – Vakgericht 1

Saturday, October 4th, dawned as a glorious day with beautiful sunshine. In short: perfect weather to play a korfball match. A well dressed-out delegation of Vakgericht players traveled to Wierden to face Blauw Zwart. While travelling there, some dark clouds appeared, but that didn’t worry us.

While we performed our warm-up routine, it turned out to be a bit windier than expected, but we kicked off the match with confidence. It was evenly matched, with a point here, a counter-point there, but the score didn’t increase rapidly. (Read: it stood still for 20 minutes.) The wind picked up and the sky became increasingly overcast, perhaps that played a role in the lack of points. Blauw Zwart and Vakgericht continued playing bravely, even though it had started raining in the meantime. At some point, a thunderstorm started, so we went inside for a while.

After a short break, we were allowed to continue. It was great to see both the home and away teams warm up with jumping jacks en masse. After five minutes, it was time for the halftime break, so we went back inside once more. Not to forget: the wind had died down by then, so in those few minutes, it was raining goals, and Vakgericht took the lead!

During the second half, the weather remained relatively quiet, but there was much activity on the field. The home team, in particular, put their passion into overdrive, and with their cheering crowd, they pulled the game back in their favor. The student brigade also stepped it up a gear, and after a nerve-wracking final, the final whistle blew with a 7-7 draw. We’ve got a point!
